New Delhi: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will raise issues such as spiraling commodity prices in the country, Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy, crop insurance and other raging issues during the monsoon session of parliament that begins here from Wednesday.
BJD Parliamentary Party leader in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab and Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya took part in an all-party meeting on behalf of BJD in the national capital convened by the government before the onset of the new session.
The BJD leaders asked the government to ensure smooth functioning of the House during the monsoon session unlike the second part of the budget session which was almost a complete washout.
“In the meeting, we said the last part of the budget session was a washout as members who are entrusted with the task of debating policies could not take part in discussions due to frequent disruptions of the house while the government and the treasury bench failed to ensure smooth functioning, Mahtab told Orissa POST.
He said he asked the government to take steps to ensure the session sees good discussions inside parliament so that healthy discussions on legislation and policies take place without hassles.
When asked what issues the party has planned to take up in the house, he said, “We have already given notices to the Speaker for discussions on issues like high commodity prices, MSP, crop insurances besides evoking debates on Polavaram and Mahanadi. We also want a discussion on the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission and special status to Odisha.”
The party, meanwhile, planned to discuss national issues like the Kashmir unrest and other issues in both houses of parliament.
After attending the all-party meeting, BJD leaders had an informal meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to discuss about the session’s plan which was followed by a dinner attended by all party leaders and Mahajan.
