Bargarh/Bijepur: Police arrested Thursday the agitating employees of Tora Cooperative Sugar Mill in Bargarh. This was done as a preventive measure keeping in mind Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s two-day visit to the Bijepur Assembly constituency where the by-poll will be held October 21.
The employees of the sugar mill had been agitating for the last few days at the District Collector’s office and in front of Prembandha on Bijepur-Bargarh road for the fulfillment of their demands. Among the demands was the release of salaries for the last 25 months and the implementation of benefits announced by the Chief Minister through an Rs 11 crore package. Naveen had announced the relief package in February this year during a KALIA at Ichhapali.
Police arrested the employees at about 11.00am and took them all to Sohela police station, it was learnt.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik started campaigning Thursday for BJD candidate in the by-poll Rita Sahu.
