Police arrest two ex-students for heckling JNU prof at Utkal University

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Sunday arrested two former students of Utkal University (UU) for allegedly causing disturbance during a state-level seminar at PG Council Hall at the varsity campus.

As per a source, some varsity students along with former students allegedly opposed a professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Surajit Majumdar, who was also the chief guest in the seminar.

The seminar was organised by Citizen Forum on the theme called– ‘Indian Constitution and Education’.

According to the source, when Majumdar started his speech, some students opposed him and caused hooliganism.

The students abused and attacked a professor of Utkal university Pradeepta Nayak, who is the convener of Citizen Forum.

Subsequently, the situation became unmanageable as the rowdy students engaged in a verbal brawl with lecturer Surendra Jena and Citizen Forum convener Pradeepta Nayak, the source informed.

In the incident, two persons were injured and two complaints from both sides have been lodged at Saheed Nagar police station.
