Police ASI in Bhadrak district suspended for demanding Rs 5,000 bribe

Bhadrak: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Bhadrak district was placed under suspension Thursday afternoon on the charge of demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 and a substantial quantity of prawns from an accused. The suspended police personnel has been identified as Harekrushna Padhi who was working in Chandbali police station in the district, an official said. He was suspended by Bhadrak SP Charan Singh Meena after his misdeeds came to light.

Sources said that Padhi had demanded the bribe for releasing the accused who had been brought to the Chandbali police station in connection with a case in 2018. An audio in which Padhi was heard demanding the bribe went viral on social media, they said.

Once the audio went viral, police launched a probe which was conducted by Chandbali SDPO Umashankar Maharana. It was found that the ASI had demanded money in connection with a case of Tentulidihi panchayat under Chandbali police limits.
