Kendrapara: An ex-army jawan was ruthlessly beaten up by police personnel during a helmet and mask checking at Tinimuhani Chowk in Kendrapara town Wednesday night.

The video of the incident is now viral on social media.

According to a source, the former jawan, identified as Manaranjan, was returning with his family on a bike. He was stopped by police at College Chowk for not wearing mask. He was asked to cough up a fine.

After depositing the asked amount, Manaranjan moved on. To his utter dismay, few metres away he was again stopped by the police at Tinimuhani Chowk and asked to pay a fine for not wearing mask.

Informing them that he had already been fined for the same reason, he refused to pay the fine. This led to a verbal duel between the ex-jawan and police personnel. The ex-army man ended up being severely thrashed by the policemen.

The police also arrested him for attacking police including a policewoman.

The incident has since been talk of the town with people accusing the police of using excess force.
