Police arrest inter-dist robber gang

Bhubaneswar, June 2: In a joint operation, the Infocity police and the special squad of Commissionerate police arrested six members of an inter-district gang of robbers Saturday morning.

The accused have been identified as Umesh Chandra Sahoo alias Mutura of Dhabalahara village in Balianta, Lokanath Sahoo of Gurujang village in Khurda, Pancham Shah of  Badambadi area in Cuttack, Pavitra Mohan Mallick alias Badal of Dhusuria village under Khuntuni police station limits in Cuttack district and Rakesh Mohapatra Aka Chinku of Mahanadi vihar in Cuttack.

Police have seized from them several toy guns, three motorcycles, gold ornaments weighing 19 grams, a tab, six mobile phones and weapons.

Recently, the accused persons had broken into the house of Subhash Chandra Nayak at Kanan Vihar Phase-II. They scared the family members with big knives and toy guns and tied them up before decamping with valuables. They were also involved in several such robberies in Jajpur, Kandarpur and on the highways in the capital region.

Several cases of robberies are pending against the accused at different police stations. Two cases are registered with Balianta police station while a case each is registered with Kandarpur, Choudwar and Infocity police stations.

Following a tip-off, the joint team arrested two members of the gang at 2 am Saturday night. Later, police nabbed the others on basis of information provided by the two.
