Police SI arrested for forging magistrate’s signature to release murder accused in Ganjam

Berhampur: Buguda police Friday arrested a sub-inspector (SI) in connection with allegedly forging a local magistrate’s signature on a fabricated order granting bail to a murder accused in Ganjam.

The accused police official was identified as Surya Narayan Behera. He was arrested Friday afternoon after the magistrate of Buguda Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court lodged an FIR with the local police against Behera over the alleged incident of forgery.

Acting on the FIR, Buguda police registered a case in this connection and launched a probe leading to Behera’s arrest. He was later forwarded to a local court in the evening and put behind the bars.

Notably, a case of the murder accused was pending at Buguda JMFC Court. The magistrate realised that a fabricated order was issued by forging his signature on the day when he was not present in the court.
