Police take ‘smart’ thief on 4-day remand

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Tuesday took BBA graduate-turned hi-tech thief Sanjay Kumar Nishank on four-day remand.
The accused is allegedly involved in robberies amounting to Rs 60 lakh. He used to steal valuables, including gold and silver ornaments, from houses in different localities of Bhubaneswar, mostly during festivals and holidays.
Sanjay, who was arrested Thursday, will be interrogated in connection with the multiple robberies that he committed in the last one and half years, police sources said
He is a native of Atri area under Begunia block in Khurda district.
Following his arrest, the police had seized 778 grams gold and 796 grams silver ornaments estimated at `32 lakh, cash to the tune of `39,504, 43 mobile phones, 29 watches, 26 laptops, three tablets, two LED TVs and other valuables like wrist watches, several inter-connecting gadgets and a bike from his possession. He was nabbed after a medical student, pursuing his PhD, lodged a complaint at the Info City police station alleging theft of his mobile phone, a laptop and an external hard disk from his rented house.
Acting on his complaint, the cops arrested him after tracking his mobile phone and identifying the helmet he used during the loot, which was captured in the CCTV at these areas.
