Poll violence: 98 arrested in Jajpur district

Jajpur: As many as 98 persons have been arrested till date in connection with poll violence cases in Jajpur district, a police source said Tuesday.

Out of 98 arrests, 69 people were arrested Monday in the district for their alleged involvement in connection with various cases of election-related violence in the first three phases of polling of panchayat elections. Further raids and interrogations of the arrested suspects are underway, police said.

According to the source, as many as 12 people were arrested Monday for launching a serious attack on a group of journalists during the electoral process at Bachhala Panchayat of Binjharpur block. A police case with case number 126/2022 has been registered against them under various sections of IPC.

Besides, Binjharpur police arrested at least four people from the Jari area and Mangalpur police apprehended 11 suspects from Dasarathpur block in connection with poll violence. Seven were arrested from Balichandrapur and Nalipr panchayats, and 13 have been detained in Sujanpur and Erbanka panchayats.

While seven were arrested in Akarapada, Deoda, and Arabala panchayats, Panikoili police arrested eight from Goleipur panchayat.
