Polling officer treks 17 kms with EVMs at night in Tumudibandha

Phulbani:  Triumphant tales of the election are coming to fore after polling was completed successfully in Kandhamal district Thursday despite Maoist threats and killing of one by the red rebels.

Hours after the story of the polling team that had to hide through the night in forest amidst rain emerged today, another courageous tale of officials has come to fore.

According to reports, the voting came to end at about 8pm in booth 137 and 138 of Sirla panchayat under Tumudibandha block of Kandhamal district.

Even though it was late and there was no road communication available, the polling officers guided by CRPF commandoes began a 17 kilometre trek late Thursday evening through inhospitable terrain to reach the block office at Tumudibandha. They reached Tumudibandha office at about 1am on Friday.
