Berhampur: A special chit fund court here has issued summons to a couple, directors of tainted ponzi firm Datum, to appear before it on February 4 in connection with cases of defrauding depositors.
The chit fund court judge Deepti Ranjan Kanungo has issued the summons to the accused couple Brajamohan Pattnaik, managing director, and his wife Tridhara Mohanty, a director, of Datum. Earlier, special public prosecutor Bijay Kumar Pradhan had filed a petition opposing the bail granted to the couple by the court on January 21.
Pradhan, in his petition, pleaded before the court to reject the bail application of the couple and arrest them once again under Section 437(5) of IPC.
The couple will now have to reappear in the court on February 4 where the judge will again hear their bail applications.
Notably, the court granted the couple bail as the investigation officer Alok Kumar Jena failed to file the charge-sheet within 60 days of their arrest. The couple, after being granted bail, was subsequently released from Berhampur Circle Jail.
Sources said the couple allegedly defrauded people of over Rs 50 crore by luring them into investing in the deposit schemes floated by their firm. Golanthara police registered a case over complaints lodged by the depositors and arrested Pattnaik and his wife from Bhubaneswar. They were produced in court and later taken on remand where police managed to get various facts during their interrogation.
