Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) Tuesday issued notices to Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Arun Sahoo to examine them for their alleged involvement in the ponzi scam involving Seashore. The two former ministers were asked to appear before the central investigative agency January 28 and January 29.
According to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party had accused Arun Sahoo of having links with various ponzi firms. Sahu, the BJD MLA from Nayagarh, was allegedly given the Youth Icon award for the year 2010 by a media house in an event which was jointly sponsored by chit fund firms Artha Tatwa, SLB and Seashore.
Earlier, the CBI arrested BJD MP Ramachandra Hansda, BJD MLAs Pravat Ranjan Biswal and Prabhat Tripathy. Hansda, Biswal and Tripathy are currently out on bail.
Meanwhile, BJD MP from Balasore Rabindra Jena Tuesday got an anticipatory bail from high court. Jena had been granted interim protection by the court after he was summoned by the CBI to depose before it January 12, 2017.
Various chit fund firms duped over 20 lakh small depositors in the state to the tune of `10,000 crore. At present, 44 ponzi firms are under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate and CBI.
