Bahanaga: Hundreds of duped investors stormed into the tehsil office here Tuesday and staged a demonstration after sealing the office. As tension mounted on the spot, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Later, the agitators opened the gate and dispersed from the scene.
The tehsil officials had earlier announced through public redressal systems, that small depositors in chit fund firms who have submitted affidavits at the Chit Fund Commission should submit photocopies of deposit certificates, passbooks and Aadhaar cards before the tehsil authorities to get their money back Saturday.
Several small depositors from Bahanaga, Khantapada, Anji, Sahaspur, Baipada, Panapana, Dandaharipur, Gopalpur, Karanjabindha, Saudi, Kharasahaspur, Kalyani, Nuapur and Odashala rushed to the tehsil office with necessary documents in the morning.
Though six revenue inspectors were present in the office, they did not receive documents from the Ponzi victims even though their names figured in the list, leading to tension on the spot.
However, the situation turned normal in the afternoon and some chit fund victims submitted their documents.
