Poor women fighting divorce case to get monthly pension

Bhubaneswar:  Odisha government will provide financial cover to poor women fighting legal battles for divorce, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) minister Ashok Panda said Saturday.

According to Panda, these women will receive the financial support under ‘Madhu Babu Pension Yojana’ of the state government during divorce proceedings.

Speaking to reporters, the minister further added that his department has already passed a resolution in this context. “Deserving woman must have an annual income less than of Rs 40,000 to be eligible for the pension,” Panda said.

In order to avail the benefits, the deserving beneficiaries need to submit their cases before the department. Pension amount will be credited after scrutiny of the applications.

This apart, Panda also said that the government has decided to set up special panels to issue disability certificates which used to take a long time to process earlier.

Under the new provision, the minister has asked the Capital Hospital authorities in Bhubaneswar to issue disability certificates three times a month. These certificates are currently issued at district headquarters hospitals twice a month.
