Post-mortem without family members’ knowledge irks villagers; ambulance, cops detained

Baliapal: Irate villagers Saturday morning staged a demonstration at Uluda square over the mysterious death of a minor employee of a dhaba Thursday and police having the post-mortem conducted, unbeknownst to family members, blocking the Baliapal-Kamarda main road in Balasore district.

The road blockade is still underway with the angry villagers and family members having detained two constables and the ambulance that carried the body to the village after autopsy.

Sources said that Bijay Dalai, a minor son of Debendra Dalai of Uluda village under Bhograi block, worked as a helping hand at Rajdhani Dhaba. Friday morning his body was found hanging from the ceiling. Local people and family members suspect he was murdered and the role of the dhaba owner is suspected.

The villagers and the deceased’s family members were hopeful that the post-mortem report could throw light on whether he committed suicide or had been murdered by someone else before being hanged but the police had the post-mortem Friday night, without informing the family members. This has irked the people.

Notably, the angry people had also staged a road blockade Friday alleging tardy response of the police and assaulted the inspector in charge of Baliapal police station, Prabhu Kalyan Acharya, for reaching the crime spot one hour after being informed.
