Koraput: With the state government giving focus on development of agriculture, potato cultivation is being promoted in a major way.
Potato has been cultivated over 1000 acres of land in the district with support of Pragati Koraput, an organization in collaboration with International Potato Research Centre. A potato nursery has been started in the district for the first time.
Meanwhile, managing director of Odisha State Seeds Corporation Jyoti Ranjan Mishra came to Koraput on a visit Friday. He visited a nursery where potato is grown through the grafting technique by a company at Dayanadhiguda.
Accompanied by agriculture officials of the district, Mishra inspected Krushak Khetra Vidyalay set up by an organization named as Pragati.
Visiting SriKrushak Seeds sales counter, he advised officials to provide high-yielding paddy and potato seeds to farmers in Koraput.
Prabhakar Adhikari, an official of Pragati, said an initiative will be taken up for sale of paddy and non-paddy seeds with the help of Odisha State Seeds Corporation.
