Poverty stands between treatment and physical disability

Khaprakhol: Jayant Bariha, a resident of Baghjharana village under Maharapadar panchayat in Khaprakhol block of Bolangir district is struggling hard to get his differently-abled son and daughter treated.

Jayant’s family comprises of his wife Bimala, daughter Ambika (2) and son Narendra (4). He runs his livelihood by working as a daily laborer. Now, his son and daughter are waiting for life to take a miraculous turn since he is not able to earn for his family.

Jayant’s son was not born physically challenged. However, with passing days he gradually developed mental and physical illness and is unable to stand. Ambika too suffers from the same issue and is currently not able to stand or talk.

He has a muddy hut and gets 5 kilograms of BPL rice every month under government schemes. However, that is not sufficient for him to see him through the day. Their life remains confined to the four walls of their dilapidated thatched house.

When contacted, Khaprakhol block development officer Tarani Suna said steps would be taken for their better treatment. She also assured that their pension will be provided soon.
