Poverty-stricken woman deprived of old age pension

Jenapur: Although both the State and Central governments have been implementing various schemes for the poor and elderly people, there are still scores who remain deprived. A case in point is the 68-year-old Kuni Pradhan residing at Raichhanda village under Dharmasala block in Jajpur district.

Kuni, is yet to get the old-age pension which she should get under the State government scheme. She is also suffering from various old-age related ailments and is forced to lead a miserable life. The woman had narrated her grievances before the District Collector many times but to no avail.

Other co-villagers also said that they on Kuni’s behalf have also appealed to the government to provide her with the old age pension.

When asked, chief executive officer of Raichanda panchayat Prasanta Kumar Jena said, “The application of Kuni has already been submitted to the block office. Once approved, she will start getting her pension regularly.”
