BHUBANESWAR: Guinness world record holder Satyapira Pradhan of Bhawanipatna attempted another record at the Soochaan Bhawan here Thursday.
Pradhan, a physiotherapy intern at the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital and a martial artist, struck 312 one hand punches in a minute holding a one kg weight to break the record of 260 punches, which was the previous record. He is now waiting for confirmation from authorities of Guinness World Records.
As per guidelines two eyewitnesses, two timekeepers and one punch pad keeper are required to be present at the event. The one minute video will be submitted to Guinness World Records.
Pradhan’s attempt was viewed by expert witness Sudhir Chandra Chattria, a martial artist, and an independent witness Hitendu Shekhar Rana. The timekeeper’s job was done by Devendra Nath Behera, Principal, Government College of Physical Education and Sasmit Routray.
Talking to Orissa POST, Pradhan said that he had worked hard to break the record, and had been training for months with martial art trainers. He said that in his previous attempt he had punched 393 times without any weight. I hope that I can break the record with a big margin, he added.
He said that he hopes to work on another record in the coming days. He would guide his martial art students to do it. He had recently performed martial arts at India’s Got Talent. He said that his only wish is to make his state proud.
On June 21, 2017, Padhan had attempted to set a record of throwing the maximum number of punches with one hand in a minute. He broke the record of Pakistan’s Muhammad Rashid, who had scored 377 punches in a minute on October 22, 2016. His record was approved by Guinness World Records authorities in January.
Pradhan is the first Odia to achieve success of such a magnitude in martial arts. He is the only man from Kalahandi district to have set a Guinness World Record.
