Pradhan urged to provide free LPG cylinders in Titli-hit areas

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Surya Narayan Patro Monday urged Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to supply LPG cylinder free of cost to the poor beneficiaries under PMUY in three worst cyclone-hit districts in the state.

In a letter to the Union Minister, Patro said cyclone Titli and subsequent flood has severely affected the life and property of the people of Odisha, more particularly in Gajapati, Ganjam and Rayagada districts.

The financial condition of the poor people in these three districts is in very bad shape and they need immediate support to maintain their livelihood.

Patro said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has tried his level best to help the poor people in every respect starting from gratuitous relief and houses to crop damage assistance in the cyclone-affected areas.

He said the Centre is providing LPG cylinder at a subsidised rate to the poorer sections of the society under the PMUY in the three districts cyclone ravaged states.

The Minister further said in the prevailing circumstances the poor in these three districts cannot pay even the subsidised rate for the LPG cylinder fixed by the government.

He requested the Union Minister to waive the subsidised cost of the domestic LPG cylinder and supply it free of cost to the poor people under PMUY for benefit of the people in Gajapati, Ganjam and Rayagada districts that have been worst hit by the cyclone Titli and subsequent floods.
