Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the appointment of Prakash R as the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) of Cuttack and two other IPS officers as the superintendents of police (SPs) of Rourkela and Angul, an official said Friday. “The appointment of Brijesh Kumar Rai (2009 batch) for the post of Rourkela SP, Umashankar Dash (2008 batch) as Angul SP and Prakash R (2008 batch) as Cuttack DCP has been approved,” read a letter of the ECI to Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.
The ECI had April 2 ordered the transfer of six IPS officers, including Cuttack DCP Kanwar Vishal Singh, Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, and Angul SP Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra, to non-election-related post with immediate effect. The other three IPS officers were IGP (central range) Ashish Kumar Singh, Khurda SP Jugal Kishore Banoth and Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek Kumar. The ECI had also ordered the transfer of Cuttack Collector Vineet Bharadwaj and Jagatsinghpur Collector Parul Patwari. The election panel had asked the chief secretary to provide a list of three names for each of these posts.
