Bhubaneswar: Para shuttler Pramod Bhagat of Odisha produced yet another dominating display as the Indian clinched both the singles and doubles gold medals at the China International in Hangzou, Sunday.
Bhagat, who became the eighth athlete from the state to be conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award, defeated England’s Daniel Bethell 19-21, 21-13, 21-14 to take home the yellow metal.
Meanwhile, in the doubles too, Pramod led from the front partnering Manoj Sarkar to beat compatriots Vikram Kumar and Suhash Ly to seal the top prize in doubles with a 18-21, 21-16, 21-15 win.
Suffering from polio since the age of four, Bhagat started playing badminton in 2002. However, he was introduced to the para badminton circuit only in 2006. Prior to this tournament, Bhagat had clinched the World Championships titles (singles and doubles) at Basel in Switzerland. He had already qualified for the Paralyimpics in Tokyo next year.
