Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: Pratik Das (119) hit a scintillating century and Ranjit Singh (80) scored a gutsy half century to rescue Orissa from the jaw of a certain defeat against Uttar Pradesh in their four-day long match of the U-23 CK Nayudu cricket tournament at the Vikash Cricket Ground in Bargarh, Thursday.
Chasing a victory target of 450, Orissa could manage 356 runs for the loss of nine wickets and able to force a draw, thanks to a fighting 106 runs fourth wicket partnership by Pratik and Ranjit on the concluding day. Raja Bahadur Pal (3/65) of Uttar Pradesh and Himanshu Asnor (2/39) rattled the top order of Orissa, but the tail wagged a bit longer to survive their scare.
Brief scores: Uttar Pradesh 304 and 5/365 declared vs Orissa 220 and 9/356 (Pratik Das 119, Ranjit Singh 80; Raj Bahadur Pal 3/65) Match drawn.
