Pratyush emerges champion

Bhubaneswar: Top seed Pratyush Mohanty of Odisha defeated Torus Rawat of Uttarakhand to clinch the U-18 boys’ singles title of the AITA-OTA CS7 Championship Series tennis tournament while other state players Sohini S Mohanty and Maitree D Rout disappointed finishing runner-up in their respective events here, Friday.

It was a total dominance from Pratyush as he never let his opponent go above him thus winning the first set 6-2. However, Torus gave a strong fight to Pratyush in the second set but the home lad kept his cool and prevailed over to take away the crown.

However, it was a disappointing day for the girls. In the U-14 singles category, Sohini put up a valiant fight before bowing down 6-7 (1-3), 2-6 against top seed Shimreen Ahamed of West Bengal in the final. Shimreen was unstoppable too in the U-18 singles final as she won 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Archery meet

Odisha Archery Association (OAA) will organise the 39th National Senior Archery Championship in Cuttack, March 9-18. “A total of 900 archers from the country will participate in the competition under three categories. Based on the performances of the tournament archers for the Indian team will be selected,” stated OAA officials in a press conference Friday.
