Pratyush, Vishal help Town Club script win

Bhubaneswar: Pratyush Das (64 n o) and an all-round show by man of the match Vishal Kar (2/23 & 41 runs) helped hosts Town Club register an emphatic six-wicket victory over Red Star in the Town Club cricket series tourney, here, Tuesday.

Batting first, Red Star scored 194 for nine in 40 overs, with Gourav Mohanty (69) emerging top scorer.  Bhabatosh Parmanik (four wickets) bowled well and was well-supported by Vishal.

Town Club notched up the target with ease in just 27 overs riding on Pratyush’s and Vishal’s knocks.

Pradosh double ton puts TN in command

Pradosh Ranjan Paul (229 n o, 242b, 28×4, 2×6) struck an unbeaten double century Tuesday to help Tamil Nadu post 600 for four declared against Orissa in their Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 cricket tournament at Theni in Tamil Nadu.

In reply, Orissa were 132 for two at stumps on the second day with skipper Raghunath Malla (59 batting, 116b, 8×4) and Jyoti Behera (24 batting, 39b, 3×4) occupying the crease. The duo so far has added 46 runs for the unbeaten third wicket.

Resuming their overnight 332/1, the hosts lost Aditya Barooah (176) to the second ball of the day. However, Pradosh who was unbeaten on 65 Monday, made merry throughout the day, scoring boundaries at will. He was well-supported by R Sonu Yadav (69 n o, 65b, 9×4, 1×6) and the two put on 179 runs for the fifth wicket without getting separated.

Game evenly poised

A half century by skipper Denis Das (50, 108b, 7×4) helped Assam reach 221 for seven in their second innings at stumps on the second day after restricting Orissa to 119 in their first essay of their Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 cricket tournament at Nagaon in Assam, Tuesday.

Resuming their overnight score of 101/8, Orissa managed to add only 18 runs before being bowled out. Reshabh Depok (4/44) and Rituraj Biswas (3/16) bagged a wicket each on the day for Assam.

The hosts put on a better batting display in the second essay. Besides Denis, Shivam Mittal (42) and Rituraj (30) batted well for Assam. Sushil K Barik (3/50) and Bikash Naik (3/75) shared the spoils for the visitors.

RCC, Warriors win

RCC and Vodafone Warriors register convincing wins in their respective matches of the Santosh Memorial cricket tournament at Rasulgarh here, Tuesday. RCC defeated Laxmisagar by five wickets while Warriors scripted a six-wicket win over Cuttack’s Hot Star.

Batting first RCC scored 102 for five in 12 overs. Sandeep Jena (3/19) bowled well for RCC. In reply, RCC notched up the target in just nine overs. Tapan Kumar (43, 26b) batted well for RCC while Siba Behera (3/38) was the pick of the Laxmisagar bowlers.

In other game, Hot Star, were bowled out for 105 in 11.5 overs. In reply, the Warriors completed the chase in just 9.5 overs with Suvendu Das (56, 31b) scoring a half century.

University Games start

The National University Games for All India Inter-University archery, cricket, Inter-Zonal Basketball (men), Tennis (men) tournament started at the KIIT University Campus Tuesday. The meet will conclude December 30.
