Dharakote: Fear about an unknown animal has gripped the people of Bahadaguda village in this block in Ganjam district after 35 goats belonging to two siblings were found killed in mysterious circumstances Saturday.
The dead goats belong to Ganga Goud and Ashok Goud. The siblings had housed the goats near a hill on the village outskirts in two sheds.
The incident occurred after they put the goats inside the sheds after grazing them near the foothill. They were in their house in the evening when they heard the animals bleating in pain and rushed to the spot.
They found the animals writhing in pain with severe injury marks on their necks, stomachs and backs. The intestines of some of the goats had been ripped out. They suspected that their goats were killed in an attack by unknown animals.
The goatherds informed the Assistant Veterinarian of Dharakote Hospital who rushed to the spot and found the animals dead. The Veterinarian conducted a post-mortem of the carcass and later buried it at the spot.
Dr Banamali Sahu, the Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer (SDVO), Revenue Inspector Srikant Rath and VSS Manas Ranjan Polai conducted a probe.
The SDVO said the Revenue Inspector will conduct a probe and the report will be submitted to the government recommending for financial assistance. Tehsildar Gadadhar Patra said financial assistance will be provided to the two goatherds after the probe report is submitted.
