Baripada: Poor road connectivity has been a major hurdle for patients to be transported to hospitals in remote pockets of Mayurbhanj district. A large number of patients are carried on cots or slings to the hospitals as ambulance and other vehicles fail to reach these areas.
In the fresh incident, a pregnant woman was carried on a cot at Chaulajori village under Bangiriposi block Sunday.
Reports said, Sukumani, wife of Bablu Singh, experienced labour pain in the morning. Her family members had sought the service of an ambulance.
The ambulance could not get access to the village due to Shankarai creek. It had to wait for the patients there.
Her relatives carried the woman on a cot across the creek and from there she was shifted to Bangirippsi CHC. The woman delivered a baby girl.
Conditions of the mother and the newborn was said to be good.
