Malkangiri: Family members of a pregnant woman were forced to carry her on a cot for about 10 km after the ambulance failed to reach the village in the absence of a proper road to the village.
The kin of the woman carried her to the ambulance which halted midway due to lack of a motorable road. The bizarre incident was reported from a tribal village under Khairaput block in Malkangiri district.
According to sources, a woman complained of labour pain early in the morning. Family members called the local ASHA worker who then called an ambulance. However, the ambulance was stuck 10 km from the village due to bad road condition.
With no options left, the family members prepared a cot and carried the woman to the ambulance from where she was rushed to the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital. The condition of the woman was stated to be normal in the DHH.
