Pregnant woman carried on cot for 2 km

Dhenkanal: A pregnant woman was carried on a cot for two km as the ambulance couldn’t reach Kaimati village of Jhilli panchayat in Kankadahada block in this district due to the bad road condition.

Rashmita (27), wife of Satarika Chhatara experienced labour pain Friday.

The family members couldn’t contact an ambulance because the village didn’t have mobile network. Her expected date was July 27. The ASHA worker could not reach the village on time though she was aware about the woman’s condition.

Her family members alleged that they could not contact the ASHA as her contact number was missing from Rashmita’s health card.

The woman complained of acute pain Saturday following which the family took the help of a local youth who informed a 102 ambulance.

However, the ambulance could not reach the village due to the bad shape of the village road. Left with no option, she was carried on a cot for two km up to the place where the ambulance was waiting.

She has been admitted at Mahabirod primary health centre (PHC).
