Malkangiri: A pregnant woman from Padalaput village under Lilasambheru panchayat of Malkangiri district gave birth to a child on the roadside after ambulance services failed to reach the village due to poor road connectivity, Thursday.
According to sources, the expectant woman of Padalaput complained of labour pain after which her relatives contacted the 108 ambulance service.
However, the ambulance driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to the non-motorable road.
With no options left, the woman’s relatives carried her on a sling to the main road where the emergency vehicle was stationed. But, the expectant mother delivered a baby girl on the roadside before they could reach near the ambulance.
Later, with the help of an ASHA worker, the woman and her newborn baby were admitted to Balimela Health Centre.
