Jharigam: Yet another incident of poor road connectivity playing with the lives of people living in remote areas of the state surfaced Thursday as a heavily pregnant woman had to be carried on a cot to avail health services in Nabarangpur district.
The incident was reported from Baghadangari village in Chakalapadar panchayat under Jharigam block of Nabarangpur district.
According to a source, Drupati Pujari experienced labor pain at about 10:00 am Thursday. Even though her family members attempted to get an ambulance, weak phone signal delayed their plans for two hours until they moved out of village. An 108 ambulance could only be booked at about 12:00 noon.
That said, the ambulance was not able to reach the village owing to poor road connectivity. The family members had to carry the expecting woman through muddy and uneven road on a cot as the ambulance laid in wait about a kilometre away from the village.
Later, she was shifted to primary health care hospital in Jharigam where she delivered a baby girl.
