Nayagarh: Delay in the arrival of an ambulance due to bad road conditions led to the death of a pregnant woman Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Sabita Mallik, wife of Pradip Mallik a resident of Kanapaju village under Kalasakhaman panchayat and Daspalla block in Nayagarh district. Family members of Sabita informed her that she started experiencing labour pain Saturday night. Accordingly, an ambulance was called.
However, even though the ambulance arrived at the village, it could not reach Sabita’s house due to slushy road conditions. Sabita’s family members then took her in a sling to the ambulance. However, valuable time was lost in the process and Sabita started bleeding. On the way to the Daspalla Health Centre, Sabita gave birth inside the ambulance.
However, Sabita continued to bleed profusely. The mother and the newborn son were admitted to Daspalla Health Centre. However, doctors there failed to stop Sabita’s bleeding and she breathed her last. Doctors however stated that newborn is fine and in healthy condition.
