Jharigaon: A pregnant woman had to be taken on a cot by her family members for two kilometers after an ambulance could not reach her village due to the poor condition of the road here.
Her family members, who carried her on a cot up to the place where the ambulance reached, rushed her to the Jharigaon community health centre at Baghbeda village under this block in Nabarangpur district in the wee hours of Saturday.
This is the third such case in the last one month in this block.
She gave birth to a baby boy and both are in good condition, reports said.
Lachhama Santa, wife of Lochan Santa from Baghbeda village, went into labour Friday night. Though the hospital is only three km away from the village, the family members could not take her to the hospital in the night because of the poor condition of the road.
In the morning, they informed the ASHA, who called an ambulance. But the ambulance couldn’t reach the village because of the road’s condition.
Sources in the block office said the road work will start after the rainy season.
“The ITDA has already made an estimate in this regard,” they added.
