Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI) – the student wing of the Indian National Congress — demonstrated in front of Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain’s official residence in Bhubaneswar against the rise in vegetable prices.

The protestors took a unique approach to protest. They performed an act of selling vegetables in front of the minister’s residence. The protestors held the Centre and state government responsible for the skyrocketing vegetable prices and raised slogans against them.

One of the protestors said that the vegetables which were sold for Rs20-30 a few days back now are being sold at more than Rs80. He added that the common man is hit hard by the price rise and is compromising with his meals.

Another protestor said that the state government has failed to control the price rise. He further alleged that Odisha does not have enough cold-storage facilities. He claimed that 82 out of 131 cold stores in the state are not functional.

NSUI demanded the governments to bring the vegetable prices under control at the earliest.

Meanwhile, no comment from BJP and BJD leaders could be obtained in this regard.
