Bhubaneswar: Art reflects life and based on this theme, scholars of fine arts are participating in a fourday long exhibition of sculpture and painting titled ‘Parikrama’ which began Sunday at the Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar. The event was inaugurated by Jayanta Kumar Das principal of Govt College of Art and Craft, Khallikote. Sharing his thoughts Das said, “The world around us is in turmoil and a medium is needed to express the pain created due to it. Interestingly Parikrama does that.” The artistes also interacted with Orissa POST and shared their thoughts on such an initiative. Sukanya from Bihar whose sculpture is showcased at the exhibition said,
“I have used iron pieces to de scribe the pain a woman experiences during life’s journey.” Tissue paper and wood carving are the mediums for Odisha-based painter and sculptor Gagan Bihari Mandal, sculptor Manisha Verma, Suresh Kumbhakar and Dhanraj Nissad (all from Chhattisgarh). Gagan’s has showcased two of his works in Gallery.
The first is a watercolour painting and the second is an artefact where he has used dry leaves that represent the dying moral values of the society. “My message is for all parents who should impart some moral education to
their children, rather than worrying for their future,” pointed out Gagan. Sculptors Manisha, Dhanraj and Suresh have also worked with wood carvings. Suresh’s work is titled Thought of Mind which has wooden and steel balls with the latter being examples of water bubbles that conjure and disappear in a whiff. The experienced Dhanraj has showcased different forms of human brain and the changes society goes through with his work on wood. Suniti Ahuja a resident of UnitVIII who had come to see the exhibition said, “Earlier there used to be lot of watercolour paintings. However, this time there is a huge change due to the skills of these five artistes. They have done exceptional work and it’s great.” The exhibition will continue for the next three days from 11.30am to 7.30pm in the evening.
