Morada: A man brutally killed his younger brother allegedly over a land dispute at Lunichati village under Nalagaja panchayat and Rasagobindpur police station limits in Mayurbhanj district, Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Jayant Mahana, while the accused happens to be his elder brother Arun Mahana, both residents of Lunichati village.
Sources said Arun and Jayant were locked in protracted land-related disputes since a long time which led to frequent altercations. Jayant was trying to erect a fence to demarcate the boundary of his house Sunday morning to which Arun objected. This resulted in a fierce altercation between the brothers, they added. An enraged Arun attacked Jayant with a sword, following which the latter fell on the ground. Arun then repeatedly hacked Jayant on his neck, leading to his death on the spot. After being informed about the incident, Rasagobindpur police station in-charge Sukanti Kerai, with her team arrived at the crime scene.
However, by then, Arun had allegedly fled from the spot. A murder case has been registered against Arun at Rasagobindpur police station and efforts are on to arrest him, Kerai said.
