Titli: SRC puts damage loss at Rs 2,765cr, 60 lakh people affected

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi Friday pegged the loss suffered due to Cyclone Titli and the subsequent flood at around Rs 2,765 crore.

The loss amount could increase as further additional estimation of damage is underway and a final report in this regard will be submitted to the Centre, the SRC said.

According to official sources, around 60.11 lakh people of 17 districts (Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, Angul and Rayagada) were affected in the cyclone and flood.

While the government claimed that 57 people have lost their lives, around 34,951 livestock were lost in the flood. Similarly, 2,63,367 hectares of crop area and 56,930 houses were damaged, reports said. Of them, 20,422 houses were completely damaged whereas 36, 508 houses have been partially damaged.

Sethi informed that a total of 8,125 villages under 128 blocks of 17 districts have been affected by the natural calamity. “More than 60 lakh people have been affected and crops in 2.63 lakh hectares farmland damaged by Cyclone Titli and its aftermath,” said the SRC.

“Priority is being given on relief and restoration works in the affected areas. As many as 54 doctors have been sent to the three districts while 86 medical relief centres set up in various areas. Apart from this, 82 mobile health teams have been engaged to disinfect water sources,” the official added.
