Bantala: Fed up with the apathy of the administration, villagers of Sankrida village near Purunakot in Angul district constructed a road themselves by collecting money.
Though the villagers had requested the administration several for a concrete road to the Kathobuiyan panchayat, there was no step to resolve it.
Finally, the villagers took the responsibility on their own shoulders and constructed the road.
Surrounded by the Satkosia sanctuary, the village accommodates around 45 families. With no concrete road, the village is eluded of development of all kinds including basic facilities.
The villagers had to trek through rough stony road to reach the panchayat and the block office as
no vehicles could ply on the road.
Moreover, patients had to suffer more as ambulance could not reach the village and had to be carried on sling and cots to reach the panchayat from where they would be taken to hospital. On the other hand, the rainy
season added to the woes of the villagers as the road would be muddy and slippery.
So, the villagers decided to construct the road by raising fund. Everyone including women and children joined the work and constructed the road after continuous efforts for five days.
