Chandbali: Villagers forced a man to scramble on the ground for about 1 km as punishment after he made an attempt to rape a woman at Bansda area of Bhadrak Wednesday.
However, no complaint was lodged with police in this regard. The matter came to light after the picture of the incident reached media.
The youth tried entered the house of a mentally challenged woman in Brjarajpur panchayat under Ghanteswar outpost limits late Tuesday night. The youth tried to outrage the modesty of the woman, who was alone. The woman raised a hue and cry when her husband working in a nearby prawn farm rushed to her rescue.
However, the accused managed to slip by then.
The husband of the woman told the matter to villagers, who called a meeting. They made the accused kneel down before the woman and later force him to crawl on the village street for about 1 km.
However, local police had no information about the matter.
