Puragudipadar villagers grapple in darkness

Karlamunda: Surrounded by dense forests, Puragudipadar village is located 10 km from the Borapadar panchayat office and 25 km from Karlamunda block headquarters of Kalahandi district.

Six families belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and backward classes reside in this village. Although it is located in one of the most inaccessible areas of the district and has been demarcated as a revenue village, no person from the district administration ever visits the village.

The only transformer installed in this village became defunct about a year-and-half back forcing the villagers to grapple with darkness after sun set, resented a villager Somanath Majhi. The village has only one mud road, which was constructed this year. Another villager named Sushanti Majhi, widow of late Akshaya Majhi who died three years back, complained that she has not received the widow allowance so far.

Reacting to the allegation that the defunct transformer was not being repaired, departmental engineer said, “So far, I have not received any complaint on this issue and I am unaware of the situation. I will take immediate action to resolve the problem”.
