Puri: The Special squad and Talabania police in a joint operation have busted a criminal gang and arrested the gang leader along with four others and seized three semi-automatic pistols, ten live ammunition, dagger and mobile phones.
Puri Superintendent of Police K. Vishal Singh told newsmen Sunday that the special squad has been monitoring the gang’s movement for a couple of weeks.
The police, he said, located the gang at the outskirts of the town where they assembled to commit dacoity in a deserted building at Huluhulia and nabbed them.
The SP said gang leader Manoranjan is involved in 18 criminal cases while the criminal history of other members are being inquired.
Singh said besides the gang leader,the four others have been identified as Soumya ranjan Acharya of Sininda village in the Jagatsinghpur district while Milan Mishra, Nilu Barik and Dipak Suara are from various streets of Puri town.
The accused persons will be sent to court Monday, he added.
