Security personnel have recently captured four dreaded criminals after two encounters in the city. Similarly, police have detained two more criminals from city bus stand a few days ago.

Director General of Police (DGP) BK Sharma had directed the police personnel to make the city crime-free while reviewing the law and order situation a few days ago. Sharma had directed the police officials to ensure safety of locals, tourists and devotees visiting Srimandir.
It is learnt that Puri police has prepared a list of 10 hardcore criminals and chalked out a strategy to take action against them.

Apart from the DGP, new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Ashis Kumar Singh, has taken a special interest to make the Pilgrim city a crime-free place. Singh has opened a special office here to keep an eye on law and order situation.

According to sources, the DIG has asked some senior police officials to apprise him about the crime scenario in Puri.

“Singh has developed his own sources to collect information on criminals. Some police officials are regularly briefing Singh about the activities of anti-socials,” said a source in Puri police.

It is worth mentioning here that Singh had worked as the Puri SP a few years ago. During his stint, Singh had organised several police-public interface programmes to improve law and order system.

Puri SP Umashankar Dash said they have directed all police stations in the city to step up vigil to crack down on criminals. “We have deployed security personnel at all strategic places in the city. Our officials are regularly monitoring the CCTV footage to keep tabs on the activities of anti-socials. Steps are being taken to make the beach free from liquor and other intoxicants,” he added.
