Bhubaneswar: About six months ago, Kuni Panda – a poor girl from Balipada village under Sadar block in Puri district was in deep pain owing to an unusual swelling on her right wrist.

Her condition is no longer the same. The troublesome swelling has meanwhile been treated, the excruciating pain has become a thing of the past and the smile lost long ago has returned on her face.

“Words will fall short if I try to explain the important role Sabyasachi bhai played to give me a new lease of life,” Kuni said referring to actor Sabyasachi Mishra.

And the actor, who already earned the moniker of Odisha’s Sonu Sood, recently shared two photographs of Kuni on his Twitter handle showing the condition of her hand before and after the treatment. He has thanked the doctors’ team for treating her successfully.

“A journey of six months! A miracle! A Smile! Doctors could save her hands & she is completely fine! Thanks to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Dr Madhabananda Kar, Dr Ritesh Panda, Dr Bishnu Patra and Sandeep for miracle,” read the actor’s tweet.

Kuni belongs to a very impoverished family comprising a widowed mother and a younger brother. The girl had injured her hand after it got hit against a wall. Later, she accidentally got an electric shock on the same hand following which the swelling and pain on her hand grew.

Kuni’s family had taken her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and AIIMS Bhubaneswar where she was advised to undergo surgery which would cost to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh. Being poor, she was left with no other choice than to return home and endure the pain.

However, a video of her requesting help while weeping inconsolably was uploaded on social media and fortunately, it reached Sabyasachi.

“Seeing her in pain, I felt my heart missed a beat. As I did not have Kuni’s phone number, I contacted the person who had uploaded her video. After going through her medical reports, I asked her to visit AIIMS Bhubaneswar once again. I also consulted with some of the professors whom I personally knew,” Sabyasachi had said six months ago when he had arranged treatment for Kuni.
