Pyari strikes sink Orissa Police

Cuttack, July 7: Mangala Club and Radha Gobinda Club won their respective matches of the FAO Women’s league here Tuesday.
In the first match, Mangala Club defeated Orissa Police by the odd goal in three. After a goalless first half, Mangala Club scored two quick goals through Pyari Xaxa. Even though Poonam Ekka reduced the margin in the 58th minute, Orissa Police failed to get the equaliser against some stout defending by players of Mangala Club.
In the second match, Radha Gobinda defeated Sunshine Club 2-1. Swarna Priya Nayak and Sasmita Ghatuary scored a goal each while Satyabrati Khadia scored for Sunshine.

Good day for Orissa
It turned out to be a good day for Orissa players as WGM Saina Salonika, WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty and WFM Rutumbara Bidhar registered convincing victories in the seventh round of the 42nd National Women’s Challenger chess tournament at Mumbai, Tuesday.
Saina got an easy win against Priyanka Nutakki in the seventh round, while Rutumbara prevailed over Shweta in a keenly-contested match. Kiran Manisha, who lost her last match, came back strongly Tuesday and defeated Ananya Suresh.
Both Kiran Manisha and Saina have five points each and are in the joint fourth position, while Rutumbara also maintained her fifth position with 4.5 points in her kitty.

 
Ameek, Rutuparna in final
Rutuparna Choudhary and Ameek Kiran Batth entered the final of the AITA-OTA Talent Series tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Tuesday.
In the first semifinal, Rutuparna blanked Ayesha Swain 6-0, 6-0, while Ameek overcame the stiff challenge of Anaam Almas 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

 
Taekwondo tourney
Orissa Taekwondo Association will organise the IInd Cadet Taekwondo Championships and second State Poomsae Championships at the gymnasium-cum-indoor hall in Keonjhar, July 12. This will be a preparatory camp for second National Taekwondo Champion-ships to be played in Hyderabad , July 31-August 2. More than 200 athletes from 21 districts are expected to participate in the tournament.
