Bhubaneswar: The Quick Action Team (QAT) of Commissionerate Police with the help of capital police arrested three gun runners from Sishubhawan Chowk here.
The accused were identified as Sujit Panda alias Roman Mallia, 19, of Old Town area, Swaraj Behera of Gosgareswara and Biswajit Behera, 20, of Behera Sahi in Old Town under Lingaraj police station limits here.
Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths intercepted the trio at Sishubhawan Chowk late Saturday night. Police seized two country-made guns along with three live ammunition from their possession. They reportedly used to sell country-made guns to criminals in the city and its adjoining areas. The motorcycles used by the accused were also seized by the police.
The sleuths are probing whether any cases were registered with any police stations in the city against the accused in connection with gunrunning.
Speaking to Orissa POST, Bishnu Prasad Patra, ACP Zone 1, said, “We are investigating into the place from where the accused persons were getting the ammunition and the buyers. We will soon catch all the persons involved in the gun-running.”
