Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Rahul Maharana was conferred the prestigious National Youth Award 2022-23 for his exceptional contributions to environmental conservation. The award, presented by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, recognised his impactful work in plastic waste management, mangrove restoration, and biodiversity preservation. The ceremony was held in New Delhi Thursday.
A native of Khurda, Rahul has played a pivotal role in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. His efforts include large-scale plastic waste cleanup drives, mangrove ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity conservation initiatives, particularly in Odisha’s coastal regions. Through community engagement programmes, he has educated and inspired local youth, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. His leadership in grassroots movements has significantly contributed to ecological restoration and climate resilience. While presenting the award, Minister Mandaviya lauded the efforts of young changemakers like Maharana, underlining that their vision and dedication are instrumental in shaping a better future. He remarked that these youth awardees exemplify selfless service, working tirelessly for social and environmental causes.
The minister further expressed optimism that by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence, the young leaders of today will be at the forefront of the nation’s transformation. He envisioned an India that evolves from a developing nation to a fully developed one, driven by the passion and perseverance of its youth. The National Youth Award serves as a recognition of Maharana’s unwavering commitment to conservation, inspiring many to contribute towards a sustainable and greener future.
