Rahul unlikely to visit state Feb 26

The AICC Screening Committee is likely to visit Odisha again in the last week of this month to finalise candidates for 10 Lok Sabha seats and all Assembly segments coming under these LS constituencies

Bhubaneswar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to visit the state February 26, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik said here Saturday.

 

Rahul was supposed to visit Odisha February 26 to address a political rally in Bargarh. Now, it is very unlikely that Rahul would visit the state, said Patnaik, adding, the programme is likely to be held before March 2.

 

Meanwhile, the AICC Screening Committee is likely to visit Odisha again in the last week of this month to finalise candidates for 10 Lok Sabha seats and all Assembly segments coming under these LS constituencies, said committee member Naushad Solanki.

 

During the last visit, the Committee has finalised names of two to four candidates for 11 LS and 77 Assembly segments. The list of candidates will be recommended to the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the AICC for its final approval, sources said.

 

The parliamentary constituencies for which the list of possible candidates has come out are: Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Aska, Berhampur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Koraput. Likewise, the list of possible candidates for all the Assembly seats under these LS segments has also been declared.

 

The party is likely to announce names of the candidates by end of February or in the first week of March, the source said.
