Rain throws life out of gear in Keonjhar

Anandapur: Incessant rain since late Friday night crippled normal life in parts of Keonjhar district. The worst affected were the areas under Anandapur block as the heavy to heavy rainfall lashed the region.

Flood-like situations were reported from Biridiha, Kantipal, Taratara, Kathakata and Baladuan areas in the district.

A sluice gate of Remal Dam had to be opened Saturday to flush out excess floodwater following incessant rain in upper catchment areas of Mahanadi basin. As a result, Jalasuan under Anandapur tehsil was cut-off as 4-feet water was flowing on the Sailanga-Deula road, reports said.

Meanwhile, the administration has alerted the people of the low-lying areas of the dam to remain alert.

“We have directed the Anandapur BDO and tehsildar to remain alert and they are monitoring the situation,” said Anandapur Sub-Collector, Tapan Nayak.

Nayak said Pandua village in the district is now inundated and the people have been brought to a relief camp where they are being provided cooked food and other relief materials.

“Pandua and Baliposi villages in Anandapur have been inundated. We have rescued the people and kept them in relief camps where they are being provided food,” said Anandapur BDO, Umakanta Parida.
