Rainfall likely over 14 districts: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning to 14 districts, Saturday.

Besides, thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to affect some places in the state.

The MeT office confirmed the onset of the southwest monsoon in 24 districts in its bulletin, Friday.

“Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts in the state and covered 24districts  including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Khurda and Cuttack and some parts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Deogarh districts.

The southwest monsoon is yet to advance into six districts including Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj.

Going by the latest prediction of the regional weather office, conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into six districts.

Meanwhile, the weather department predicted heavy rainfall to lash several districts in the coming three days.

“In the coming three days, there will be rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty wind with speeds reaching up to 30-40 kmph in the state,” said Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar.
