Rairangpur villagers threaten to boycott polls

Rairangpur: People of many villages in Rairangpur Assembly constituency of Mayurbhanj district are upset by the lack of development in their areas and have warned of a poll boycott.

The latest case is Dakadiha in Anla Jodi panchayat where people have been facing transportation problems as there is no bridge over the Gudia river.

“The bridge has been a long standing demand in our area. Thousands of people here face commuting problems. As our long pending demand has not been met, we have decided to boycott the polls,” the villagers said.

Hundreds of villagers like Guruba Nayak, Chamara Nayak, Ganeswar Patra and Dhaneswar Purty raised the issue with Sub-Collector Dharmananda Behera and submitted a memorandum with him.

The villagers pointed out in the memorandum that during monsoons they face a lot of problems as the village gets flooded by the Gudia river. Many other villages also share the same fate during rain.

The people of Dakadiha and nearby villages had submitted memoranda to the district administration and their MLA several times, but the demand for a bridge was never met.

The villagers also raised encroachments on some roads and canals in the area with the authorities.

The residents of wards 11, 12, 13 and 14 and some councilors also raised the issues with the sub-collector.

Councillors Anup Kumar Mohant and Pramila Mohant said people have decided to boycott the polls and they are firm in their  stance.
